Welcome to My Office

Thursday, February 02, 2006

I have a "real" office, at a real workplace, but am currently on my sabbatical year and so am primarily working from home. Typically, this has not been a good thing for me, because I seem to be able to do anything but academic work from home...hmmm now I think I'll clean the toilet, kitty litter box, dishes, laundry, cook a little smackerel of something...putter putter putter...Since we moved to this lovely house by the sea, I am so inspired, that I love to sit in my chair by the window and am content to work away, and to hell with the toilets. Mr. C. takes care of that anyway (yes, I am a pathetic wife, I know).

I am anxiously awaiting my new dark wood roll-top desk, which, I've been told, is on a truck en route from Pennsylvania. The minute it's here, I'll be posting a photo. In the meantime, I am posting this "before" shot, so you'll be able to see the huge improvement in the "after" photo. Right now I am surrounded by The Nova Scotia Environment Act (one of the documents on the floor), lunch (the crackers) half a dozen to-do lists, two day planners, several books that await being read, including "Ecological Literacy" (Stone and Barlow, eds) "Unnatural Law" by David Boyd and multiple weather-themed texts.

What surrounds you?

    Btw, thanks for buying your desk from my great state of Pennsylvania. ;)

    I putter at the office too. Like, right now for instance. My view is of the rooftops of brownstones in Boston's South End. Trade?

    I like your office - lots of light is essencial. I have that problem too when I work at home and I think that's the reason working from home doesn't always work - people can't separate the working time from the leisure time. I know I can't cause I'm turning into one lazy woman!

    Oh...what surrounds me? In my desk...lots of postcards received and to be sent, books, reports, to do lists, pens, sheets and sheets of paper with reflections on my clients lol.

    I'm not very neat..Lets just say I'm the clutter queen that surrounds me..I need one of those energy spurts to " d-clutter".

    My dog, my journal, a glass of milk, and my cell phone surround me. Along with furniture of course.

    I like your office, beautiful light. I want to take the black out shades off the windows in my bedroom but my neighbors porch lets them see right into my room. It's not happy.

My mobile phone, photos of "A",my laptop, my mp3 player and last but not least.....the computer i am typing this post on, and of course printer/fax/scanner ......are'nt you glad you asked?!!!

    Tee;
    It is relaxing; too much so sometimes.

    Connie;
    It doesn't sound cluttered at all; it sounds cozy.

    Neo;
    The desk coming from Pennsylvania has a a rather longish story which I might share...
    the crackers are all gone; sorry...;)

    Stephanie;
    Take a photo of your view from work next time and I'll let you know...

    fb;
    You are surrounded by pictures of your cat. Seriously. Get out of the house, my friend;)

    Devil Mood;
    By the sounds of what's around you, you are not a lazy woman!

    Heidi;
    I would love to see your clutter!
    Want some advice on a digital camera?

    Alysa;
    What a shame; could you speak nicely with your neighbours about this?

    Michelle;
    Now I want to see a picture of your office...nosey me.

    Chloe;
    The desk was our first kitchen table and we have another one fo those chairs. I will be turning this into a craft table when the real desk comes...I love the post you did, too funny.

    SkyeBlue;
    Thank You! What does yours look like?

    We have a small house so my computer desk is in the living room and my craft desk is in my room. I posted before and after of that recently. Looking forward to your after.

    i don't believe this Cathy!
    when we first moved here we had two desks and no kitchen table and only room for one desk, so this black desk was covered with a long tablecloth and was transformed into a kitchen table (it's quite a big desk).

    It is hard to keep work and home separate when you work from home. I have the same issues too!

  1. Blogger Heidi said:

    Cathy yes for the advice.
    Something "digital friendly" simple, basic..Doesn't have to have more than 5 m.pixels.

    Thanx

    Your work space looks so peaceful. But I'd be looking out the window at the ocean all day FOR SURE. :-)

    I am surrounded by a half eaten bowl of cereal (no milk, thank goodness), lots of office supplies, dictionaries, kids timetables, ESL books - just piles and piles of stuff, really.

    P.S. My husband irons his own shirts for work! He says he hasn't a clue how to clean a toilet, though :-)

    Stephanie;
    I keep forgetting to take my camera with me lately...I'll check over later and see.

    Will;
    Could be good, could be gross.

    Alysa;
    Well, I guess something needs to be sacrificed, then...which will it be?...

    fb;
    I hate when this happens; I've been having terrible sleep issues lately and it is making me cranky.
    Detritus...better get the hoover out.

    Meow;
    Take a picture; I want to be nosey and see...

    DaybyDay;
    But this could be cozy...

    Chloe;
    We are the same people, trapped into two bodies. Separated by an ocean, and a sea.

    Dr.Deb;
    Ah, someone who can relate. I know you do.

    Heidi;
    I will do a little research and get back to you; there are some good HP ones that are 4 mp...if that is enough for you...

    Eric;
    Hurumpfh.
    She took hers in cozy lighting:)

    Vani;
    Poop before blogging, as they say.

    sjobs;
    Funny how these things go...

    Christina;
    I've missed you.
    Take a photo of your work space, so we can all peek in.
    Mr.C also irons his own shirts; I don't do ironing...:)
