Personally, i think parents need to start listening to their kids, and i mean listening not hearing and from a young age. Be participants in their kids lives and take an interest in what they're doing.
about your post, i've read some extremely narrow-minded articles on the entire ordeal, including one in the globe and mail that went on and on about how this boy loved guns and death and vampires...as if they were the CAUSE of the problem. this totally evades the real problems, which are much deeper than weapons and aesthetics of death.
I find it impossible to understand what leads a person to do this. It shows how fragile life is - we need to hold on to each other.
Sometimes people are beyond help and are just evil.
The results are shocking and sad!
Well if there is anyhting I can do then I need guidance as I wouldnt know where to begin. All I can say is yeah its wrong but.....
The bunny ears are a korean tradition and it means victory through peace
When I heard the news two thoughts came to mind:
- not my Canada
- this was quickly followed by memories of the massacre at the Polytechnique
I cant explain it. :(
It is sad. And why do these people always choose to go to schools? Is there a secret shooters code?
:(
It seems like it's getting easier to get "lost" in this world.
Despair ... yes, anger, frustration ... all of that and the availability of guns and the culture of chaos and the cult of celebrity that celebrates the lowest common denominator - "Paris Hilton" and her flock - where a person with no hope creates a newsclip with his life taking precious others with him.
Cathy, I have to say I really admire your compassion not to hate the perpetrator of this horror. I'm unfortunately not as strong as you, and although I don't believe in an "eye for an eye" I still have an over riding sense of hatred for the animal that did this.
I simply don't understand these very strange days we are living in,when did we quit carring enough that we don't hear and recognise when someone is about to do harm to someone else or themselves?
i was startled to find out this happened in Canada. i was in the living room with 2 friends and they also jumped up and said "what, CANADA?"
I refuse to hate too.
xx
I wish we had the answers to the humanity question. What does make someone act in a such a manner???

If I may expand upon Steph's comment, one person can make a difference, because in many ways, it's the only way we can make a difference.
