Earth Day

Friday, April 21, 2006

"I love the Earth, Mom..." my son spontaneously said to me one day last summer. It was a moment I was able to capture in time, as he looked at the rainbow in the sky. We had just picked a bouquet of weeds from our walk down the road.

Protecting the environment is my passion. For many reasons. But above all else, I owe it to my sons and my grandchildren and theirs, to ensure that they have the ability to drink clean water, breath fresh air and enjoy the natural environment as we are able to today. Everyone can do something. For the sake of our children, nieces and nephews, let's do them this favour. Make every day Earth Day. Care for the Earth like you care for everything else you love most. The environment of Earth is our future, but the Earth is sick; do you choose to take care of it or to turn your back when the Earth needs your help most, when there is still time to make choices. Today is not too late to begin. Here is how.

    What a sweet photo moment! I agree, if everyone cared a little, things could be SO much better everywhere.

    My son said to me the other day...."Mommy, today is Earth Day. I just don't think I could clean up the WHOLE earth!" I had to laugh. I ensured him he didn't have to clean the WHOLE earth but that he should always do his part.

    I told him that I would be thrilled if "his" part started in his room, lol!

    Great post!

    That picture is incredible. I hope it's enlarged, framed and gracing a wall in your home :)

    That's maybe the best photo I've seen you take yet! Special!

    Happy Earth Day, and i'm so glad your brother is doing better.

    That's so sweet and at the same time gives you even more responsability. I think I'm taking care of the earth but you can always get a little better at that. :)

    Connie;
    Thank you Connie :)

    Tim;
    I hope they wake up; it is easy to be cynical and frustrated, but we also have to have some hope and people can change.

    MomyBlogR;
    Understanding that the small bit that we each do is better than nothing is an important lesson. My son and I went with a garbage bag and cleaned up the beach this afternoon.

    Romani;
    It's not, but it should be...I'm on it...

    Eric;
    What did you do?

    MissB;
    Thank you (x2)

    Devil Mood;
    This is precisely what I wish more people felt; the sense of responsibility. If we don't care for the Earth, who is going to do it!? I feel a Planet of the Apes moment coming on...

    Guilty as charged.. I'm not particularly environmental-unfriendly, but I like to think that environmentalists are overdoing it, and that everything's actually ok with the world. Even when I can see it's not. It's easier to have a clear conscience that way..

    Scholiast;
    This is the reason that the state of the world is as bad as it is; the general public's lack of interest, concern and general apathy; sorry, but people who know they are guilty as charged (as you state) frustrate me to no end.
