Should I Stay or Should I Go ?

Tuesday, February 21, 2006

This winter has been strange; the temperature rises and falls dramatically and Mother Nature can't seem to decide if we are in spring or winter. It makes the anticipation of the actual springtime even that much more difficult. And then there are the snows that are not quite storms but enough to make travel difficult. Perhaps 5 to 10 cm tonight, but starting when? Not quite certain. I have to go an hour away to give a presentation and the woman I am going with thinks I am crazy to even think about cancelling. I mean, right now, this is what we see...

But by this evening, it could be intense snow squalls. Or not. Off to go and check the radar again.

Has the weather been odd where you live?

    Same here. All the snow for the whole winter in one giant snow storm. Then it's melted by spring-like weather within a week.

    I like that first picture a lot.

    It's been really weird.

    Hi. I found your blog through Steve and Stephanie. Lovely pictures and great title for your post (it's one of my favourite songs by The Clash). I'm originally from New Brunswick and live in England now so it is nice to see a bit of snow, even if it is only in pictures. :)

    Cathy, I left B.C. last year to come to the wettest Albertan summer in 100 years, followed by one of the mildest winters (only two-three days of -30C)in recent memory. Is that odd enough for you?

    Stephanie;
    We are experiencing the same kind of winter...

    Thanks; the photo is on my side deck.

    Madelyn;
    Drafty is not good; beter get those gaps fixed...

    Connie;
    That's exactly right; our bodies don't know what to think; I don't like this constant change...

    Romani;
    Across the map.

    Stephanie;
    Are you THE Stephanie; the Steve birthday beach Stephanie? Thanks for coming by! When did you leave New Brunswick? You gor the title reference exactly; the Clash.
    Thanks for coming by.

    Blackcrag;
    So the weird weather is following you...please don't come any further east! :)

    Madelyn;
    Thanks. My God, you're quick!
    We don't have IKEA; can you believe that!? I am so annoyed by this...

    Cathy ...

    What are you reading now? What should I buy at the going-out-of -business sale tomorrow at my one and only english-language book shop?!

    The weather has been crazy here. Last week it went from 80 to 30. We had sleet and freezing rain for days and then yesterday a super dense annoying fog.
    I like the cold tho, better than heat that goes over 100.

  1. Blogger Stephanie said:

    It's the same Stephanie as from Steve's Brighton Birthday Weekend. :)

    Random anecdote about the song: I used to enjoy annoying my ex by claiming that "Should I Stay or Should I Go" was my absolute favourite Clash song. It is only one of my favourites.. It used to frustrate him because he was a huge Clash fan and considered that song frivolous. "London Calling" was his fave. I just enjoyed peeving him off.. :) I also used to pretend to confuse Shakin' Stevens with TRex. Again, that annoyed him too. :)

    the weather here has been very unprodictable. Today it's so nice I vacummed out my car. Yesterday it was to cold to even be outside.

    I hope your storm will pass..Crazy weather everywhere and back to mild here.

    Cathy..just a thankyou and a huge hug back at ya from your reply today.

    it's sunny here. Around 17 C today. I know in some places this is considered spring, or even summer, but for me, it's cold!
    I hope everything went okay and you are back safe. xxx

    Our Australian weather has been very odd, too. In late December, early January, we had such extreme hot temperatures. Since then we have had days that could have been Winter, Spring, Autumn, but not too many Summer. This week has varied from around 21 to 28ÂșC during the day ... not as hot as it normally would be. The nights and mornings have been quite cool, which does make for nice sleeping. I think the world is going crazy !!
    Hope the presentation went well.
    Take care, Meow

    weird too. Last week it was crazy cold. It actually went below 40 last Friday night. I thought SF was going to implode. but now it's 60 something. but *still* quite cold. Last winter was SO nice.

    We had the warmest January on record for the state of MN. This month has been more normal with temps actually going below zero F. We hardly have any snow and there doesn't seem to be any on the way.

    YES! I think it's been strange all over.

    I don't know...a Mother of two traveling an hour away in quetionable weather? I think I'd stay!! The boys need Mommy...so does Daddy!

    Be careful.

    Have to go against what Meow says re Aussie weather.
    In the north of the State it's same old same old....33C during the day and 25C overnight for the last 2 months....nothing unusual :)

  1. Blogger Steve House said:

    its just cold here, seems to rain overnight but thats normal and regular

  1. Blogger Dr. Deb said:

    Yup, the weather here, too, is spring and then winter all in one day. Love the photos!

  1. Blogger Foxy said:

    yes, just last week there was a snow blizzard, then we had 50 degree days, then all of a sudden we woke up to the teens.. go figure. :)

  1. Blogger missbhavens said:

    I'm glad it's not just me!

    Oh, the weather has been weirder than weird. We got 27 inches of snow in 12 hours and the two days later it was in the hight fifties, it melted so quickly that by the 4th day after the snow it was completely gone. All of it! You never would have known...

    It wass a good thing, too because we got hit by a vicious cold snap right away. Lucky there was nothing left so the streets couldn't ice over!

  1. Blogger Admin said:

    Madelyn and I are in Vancouver....cold cold cold. I'm sick of running in such cold air that my lungs ache...and I have to walk after a few minutes to catch my breath. It's the coldest on clear nights, when there's not a blanket of clouds to keep the heat in....

  1. Blogger Devil Mood said:

    Last week it rained A LOT! This week it's sunny again but much much colder. But Spring is coming, there's lots of flowers growing, the days are getting bigger.
    I see the weather gives your work a constant instability, you never know what to expect - as if working wasn't hard enough! Take care :)

    Finnegan;
    Welcome. Where are you?

    Richard;
    I am reading Barbara Kingsolver's "Prodigal Summer"...I am sorry that I am too late to have given you some advice.

    Alysa,
    Crazy in Texas too...who knew!

    Stephanie;
    Great lyrics to annoy a boyfriend!
    I see why he is the Ex;)

    DayByDay;
    We will not have vacuum out the car weather until at least May.

    Heidi;
    Hugs back at ya!
    The storm passed, but more about that in the next post...

    Chloe;
    17? Cold?....walk yourself straight over to the Doctor's office, madame! GO. NOW! RUN!

    Meow;
    Even strange in Australia...sigh.
    The presentation stank. More about that later as well.

    Anhoni;
    Everywhere weird!!

    Mary;
    Lucky to have none on the way!

    MommyBlogR;
    Wise woman. Wise wise woman.

    Michelle;
    But you and Meow are in different parts, are you not?...

    Will;
    So weird is the norm for Kansas.

    Steve;
    You are perpetuating a stereotype. But perhaps it's just true.

    Dr.Deb, Vani and MissB (My New York Friends);
    We are having a similar winter as you are.

    Gurgo;
    Poetic weather! :)

    Vesper;
    I often see people out jogging in the cold and admire their ability to do this. I would explode.

    Devil Mood;
    Flowers growing!
    We will have to wait another 3 months for that here!

    Cathy, I am way down south in Victoria, and Michelle is way up north. It's like being in two different countries. Totally different climates.
