Goodbye Inspiration

Sunday, January 08, 2006

Leonard Cohen attended Irving Layton's funeral in Montreal this weekend. Two Canadian greats. One honouring the other. If you haven't read any of Irving Layton's poetry, you should try it out. He was a prolific writer and has numerous anthologies and compiled works. I feel a trip to the Bookstore coming on...

    A trip to Borders Books is on the cards for me, too, I think.
    Thanks for the recommendation.

    Jase, Marel, and Meow;
    I would recommend the following:
    "A Wild Peculiar Joy: Selected Poems, 1945-89". Expanded edition. Toronto: McClelland and Stewart, 1989

    I belive this is the book that Leonard has in his hand in the photo. I actually don't have my own copy of this. Just supremely fond memories of it.I think I must make a trip to Chapters (our version of Borders).

    Happy Reading, and perhaps even Happy Inspiration.

    Michelle;
    I agree, but when you live over a half hour away from one and have two young children to tote along, it can be two hours of stressful preparation and driving for a 1/2 hour of rushed looking, dragging two children along. I'll have to do a pros and cons weight alanysis...

    Well worth it, I think; see the photos posted for yesterday; out our backdoor.

    I don't believe I've read either but I like that photograph. My Grandpa used to wear hats like that.

    If you like him and Leonard Cohen likes him, he's good enough for me. Sadly, Canadian poetry is nowhere in textbooks of english literature. So i don't know him. I googled him and found many interesting sites, but only 3 or 4 poems.

    Tee;
    Leonard Cohen is a musician and he's wonderful, and if you enjoy poetry, you might enjoy this.

    Chloe and Gurgo;
    I will post a poem or two. For you.

    Armaedes;
    Yes, we certainly know more about you than you about us. But that's not your fault.
