It's all about me

Monday, December 19, 2005

My posts this week were going to be strictly other peoples' writing, from my new Canadian Christmas book. But since I was tagged, I'll post more information that any of you need or might want to know about me...

10 years ago...
I was living in Waterloo, Ontario, and just starting my PhD. I had been married for two years, did not have children and was a part-time nanny for 7 year old twins and a 4 year old.

5 years ago...
I was pregnant with my first son, and in my second year of my job as an assistant professor. I was not living in the house I live in now.

Last year...
I was pregnant with my second son and had just moved into the house I now live in. I was just getting over three horrific months of morning noon and night sickness and was taking a good long break over the Christmas holidays.

Yesterday...
I spent the morning and early afternoon making crafts and baking with my 4 year old. Then we all went to my sister's house for a potluck dinner with her family and other members of my family. It was a really nice evening. Actually, the entire day was nice. I watched the Carol Burnett Princess and the Pea show last night.

5 Yummy things:

Chocolate brownies
Sugar cookies with frosting
Turkey dinners
French Onion Soup
Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting

5 things I know by heart:
(this is a hard one for me because my memory is shit)...

Addresses of my old house and Mr.C's parent's house
Birthdays of people in my immediate family
The prepositions in the English language
Twas the Night Before Christmas
My e-mail password

5 things I'd do if I had lots of money:

Give some to everyone in my family
Make huge donations to the Red Cross, World Wildlife Fund, and other worthy organizations
Travel, travel, travel
Invest in my children's education
Invest in Chloe's bookshop

5 Places I escape to:

Bed
My computer
The bookstore
The coffee shop
Cuba

5 things I'd never wear:

Very high heeled shoes or boots
Low-cut shirts ( I am not the type to expose cleavage)
A sequined dress (sequined anything, for that matter)
Animal print
Short shorts

5 Favourite TV Shows:

Amazing Race
Survivor
Ellen
Regis & Kelly
Law & Order: SVU

5 Things I enjoy doing:

Crafty things, including scrapbooking and quilting
Going on vacations and travelling
Researching interesting topics
Teaching
Most recently, of course, blogging....

    Steve;
    I do some contract work with the Canadian International Development Agency on a project in Cuba and for the past five years have gone at least once a year. It is one of my favourite places in the world.
    I have done similar work in Vietnam and when I cross the Canada-U.S. border and they look at my passport with work visas for Cuba and Vietnam, they look at me with suspicion. I have that look about me anyway. One of these days I am going to be denied entry...

    i forgot to say brownies, carrot cake and onion soup. but maybe i'll start a meme with just food.
    5 favourite soups, 5 favourite cakes, 5 favourite veggie dishes, you get the point.
    it seems like you are always pregnant in this meme. the questions got you on those periods of your life.
    i didn't know all these things about you, now i do and am glad i tagged you.
    also, i am glad you have faith in my kids bookshop dream. can you suggest a name -just in case?

    Thanks for coming by!
    Yummy things are great to think about, especially this time of year.

    Angel;
    I always order it in restaurants but never make it myself. I thknk I need those fancy soup dishes with the handles especially for the onion soup.

    Chloe;
    I like your idea of the tag on foods. I could definitely participate in that one! I was thinking the same thing about the prgnant thing; I only have two children. Really. My favourite children's bookstore in Halifax is called Woozles, like in the Winnie the Pooh stories. So perhaps something along those lines..."Heffalumps"? Or something cutsie like "Through the Looking Glass"....

    SkyeBlue;
    Those twins were a horror. The 4 year old was an absolute dear, though. I have a whole blog worth of stories from that year of looking after those three kids, that's for sure!

    It's great getting to "know" you! We have a lot in common. :)

    Heidi;
    You have some posting about yourself to do there, I do recall...we'd all like to know more about you, too :)

    Neo runs back to JBI to update his links. Sorry!

  1. Blogger Cathy said:

    Will;
    Me too. In fact, I have.

    Neo;
    Hey, no issues with that! You don't have to...I don't keep track of that kind of thing :)

    Cool getting to know more about you :) I love the photo!

    What a beautiful picture! Just look at those chubby cheeks - the baby's, not yours, ha ha!

    Isn't it amazing to think back and see how far we've all come in 5 or 10 years?

  1. Blogger Foxy said:

    i love the pic- your son looks just like you :) and the PHD is very impressive!

  1. Blogger Michelle said:

    Fab photo! Enjoyed learning more about you :o)

    Starfish;
    I knew we'd have at least a few things in common! :)

    Christina;
    You owed me that dig from my yoga pants comment I made awhile ago :)

    Vani;
    Yes, people say the babe looks like me and my other son looks like Mr.C. What's more impressive than the PhD is the fact that I survived looking after those three children (and they survived me !:)

    Michelle;
    It's fun reading about strangers' lives, somehow...and then slowly they are no longer strangers but friends :0)to you too.

    Cathy, loved learning more about you. You are a most interesting person. Great photo. I must say, I love carrot cake and french onion soup, also (although not at the same time). Have a great day.
