His Holiness on Ethics

Sunday, January 20, 2008

I am immersed in books, in writing, in wrapping my head around multiple realities that run the gamut from Dr. Seuss to Freud. From Eric Carle to Jane Austen. From Robert Munsch to, well you get the idea. My pen goes mad and my brain refrains back to the Dalai Lama (as I read Ancient Wisdom, Modern World)...

...particular causes lead to particular effects, and...certain actions lead to suffering while 0thers lead to happiness. Thus it is in everybody's interest to do what leads to happiness and avoid that which leads to suffering. And because...out interests are inextricably linked, we are compelled to accept ethics as the indispensable interface between my desire and yours.
Have a week full of happiness and serenity, friends. I implore you.

some people think that ethics is something you can choose either to have or to have not. wrong, it's mandatory.

Also, can i say your son is still the best zhouzhou ever.

Just dropping by to say hello, and that I'm amazed at all the snow falling in my old corner of the world. (relatively speaking)

Hope you're staying warm and enjoyed your holidays!
