Type A Humility

Tuesday, March 13, 2007

I was recently told by a colleague that I am a classic Type A personality. I pretty much knew this already, but it is still amusing to be told by someone. Today I was elected to be the head of my "department", which sounds exactly like something somebody with my personality would aspire to, although unfortunately it is a rather thankless position. Think along the lines of a highly educated complaint department.

Tonight I gave a very important lecture to an important crowd of people. The talk coincided with the launch of a new publication that I had written the preface for. At the end of the talk, an elderly woman approached me, pen and book in hand, and asked me for my autograph. I was genuinely taken aback and told her that no one had ever asked me for my autograph before. She looked at me intensely and said "You will be famous one day, and that is why I want to have it.". So yes, this comment fed my Type A fire. But don't worry; I am holding on to my humility.

There is no doubt in my mine that you will be famous signing books some day. You are a smart cookie destined for something special.
What a lovely lady she must have been...You just telling me the story gave me shivers. Sounds like something in a movie when someone was trying to give you "a sign".

Don't forget me in your fame.lol

    Hugs,
    Connie

I know, I feel the same way about all the personal pronouns I write. I'm really not that into me. There are 10 in this comment alone.

I wish I knew what exactly a Type A personality was, but from what I've heard, I don't think I am one.

Go you! I'm glad there are some Type A people in the world to keep things moving forward for us non-A types. If I was much more laid back I think I'd fall over.

But congratulations! You deserve it, autographs and all.

    Wow :)
I'm glad I've got the card you sent to me so well kept, maybe one day on e-bay you'll make me a rich woman ahahah just kidding!
And don't worry about the I's - the truth is, in english, it's impossible to write without using them almost everywhere.
But I'm wondering what a Type A personality is...is it some kind of psychological classification?

Thank you for autographing my book. I was afraid that you would recognise me in the wig.

Seriously - congratulations. Just think of me when you are up there at the top. And try not to laugh too loud.
