Summer Today, Winter Tomorrow, Spring The Day After

Sunday, January 15, 2006

All of this weather talk would normally be a great thing for me, especially nearly on the eve of a meeting with publishers to discuss writing a book on the topic. To the contrary. It is annoying as hell to get used to one temperature only for it to change to another the next day. Plus 13 today and minus 8 tomorrow. My wardrobe can not keep up. Spring jacket one day, sweater the next, tomorrow a parka.
In celebration of our official "Summer in January in Canada" day, we had a bbq for dinner tonight and strawberries and watermelon. My son asked me if winter was over. Did we sleep through the snow part of it? He is confused. The whole country is confused. The nation is consumed (more than usual) with talk of the weather, and I am no better. We are about to elect our next Prime Minister and all the country can do is worry about the weather. The weather will come and go tomorrow. The moron we might elect we could be stuck with for awhile. I start to sweat when I even entertain the thought that we could end up with a Conservative government. I've told MR.C that we're moving to New Zealand if it happens. I'll certainly be writing more about this in the days ahead.
On another topic, I've been going iTunes crazy lately and have compiled an all-Canadian soundtrack for my blog, following on the heels of my good friends Chloe and Stephanie. If you would like one, let me know and I can see what I can do. Otherwise, I can list the playlist here if you want to check it out.
Have a great week!

    Ooooo yummmy, if you move to NZ, you'll be closer to me....we can bbq together LOL! Just a 3 hr plane flight away!
    Love that photo btw :)

    It's been like summer here too. It was 90 the other day. The strawberries look yummy, all you need is some whipped cream.

    I would like one of those all-canadian soundtrack things. Sounds really interesting, and I love finding new music. I could make you an all-Texas one or something haha.

    Hope all is well.
    hugs and happy things,
    Alysa

    Connie;
    The weather is odd across all of North America. It is difficult to stay well when it fluctuates so much. I hope you haven't caught anything.

    JoeC;
    Well right now it is a huge Pacific air mass, but global warming plays into the whole change in climate that is for certain. We all need to be thinking and doing something about it. A bbq in winter did taste good, however. Typically we would have been buried in snow drifts.

    Michelle;
    It would be nice, I couldn't agree more. But we would prefer to remain here and have a decent government! :)

    Alysa;
    I will find a way to send you one, and a soundtrack from Texas would be nice:)

    How funny that your son thought winter was over because you had watermelon and strawberries.

    I WISH! I'm ready for some sun and fun.

    I think the world is going crazy, with strange weather patterns everywhere. I imagine as the years go by, our seasons will gradually shift. Sad, really, but exciting in a weird sort of way.
    Take care,
    Mewo

    Unfortunately, we have a lot of winter to go yet!

    Lisa;
    Our weather is more like west coast weather so far this winter.
    What is your picture of?...

    Meow;
    I agree that our seasons are changing. I find it scary, plain and simple. The fact the humans have caused a shift in our climate. Irreversible. One planet. If we screw this one up, that's it.

    Cathy - We have the same weather
    :( Maybe it'll snow in July this year. (And don't even get me started about who WE managed to elect...and not just once, but TWICE. I often feel like moving from this country just because of that.) Ugh. Also, please do always count me in for the music mailings!

    Good Morning, Weather wheter or not we'll have some sort of weather ... I'm looking out the window annd it's a red sky, hmmm, today is really cold here with frost warnings and the snow level was down to 3ooo ft. last night. I too have some persistance cough, b/c at 5pm. its really cold and by 2 am. when I go to work it'll almost be short sleeve weather. My body doesn't know how to keep up with the difference in degrees. Will you include me on the music list, please?

    Oh those strawberries look nice! ... Our weather on the East coast of the US has been mild, too.

    I'm curious... Why New Zealand?

    I guess if the Conservatives take over your country, fleeing to the states would be out of the question, wouldn't it? ^_-

    Don't +13 and -8 feel a lot alike? It all sounds cold to me!

    We've just dropped to 17F from 58F three days ago. No more flip flops.

    Stephanie;
    That's exactly what I'm worried about; a repeat of what's happened to you guys :(
    Your Canadian cd will be in the mail soon! Did you get the 80s one yet?

    SkyeBlue;
    Yes! I'll pop over to your site soon.

    Dr.Deb;
    I'll post the list after I've sent them out, unless you want me to send you one as well...

    Tee;
    Colder now, though!

    Eric;
    A headhunter tried to lure me to a univerity in Auckland. I didn't consider it at the time, but I could be lured now (perhaps). And New Zealand is beautiful! Fleeing to the U.S. is out for me right now ;)

    MissB;
    Sorry to hear about the flip flop days being over (temporarily! :)

    Hey, I ate strawberries too last night and they were lovely, just like the spring ones. The weather's pretty crazy everywhere and it worries me a lot.
