Edible Trees and Advent Calendars

Thursday, December 01, 2005

This was the tree we made last night; gingerbread star cookies stacked up to make the tree and then decorated. Given the states of mid, it could have been worse (but better, too).

This morning marked the arrival of December. And the infamous advent calendar. Which will have my child up at the crack of dawn until Christmas. Why do we torture ourselves for the love of our child!? He loves this thing beyond explanation. In fact, he loves everything Christmas. It is inherited. He can not help it. Mr. C is a Christmas maniac. Mr. C actually stands for Mr. Christmas. Anyone seen Mr. Bean's Christmas, when he wakes up on Christmas morning and does his dance of joy? That's my husband. And now my child.

And I am feeling much better now that I've had two cups of coffee and half a dozen snowmen cookies. I am still dreading going out this afternoon, but I'll let you know how it goes. Survivor is on tonight YAHOOO!

Its a great pic of a curious mind...

I just want to grab that ginger bread tree and eat it now..lol

    Glad your feeling better :)

Childhood wonder; isn't it what Christmas is all about!

I wish I could hand it out to you. Feeling better, yes. Still waiting for full recovery.

Thanks so much for offering to pick some info. up on Saturday; any documents on different national reponses to meeting their emission targets; literature reviews of climate change. If this is too difficult to find, don't spend any time seeking it out; most of this would likely be on the web, anyway. Thanks, Heidi.

He gets up at the crack of dawn for the advent calendar? That's kind of . . . unusual. As a child, I didn't even get up at the crack of dawn for Christmas Day, much less for a little piece of candy.

It's true; perhaps strange, but true. Just wait until you have an excited child anticipating Christmas on your hands!:)

Christmas is the first force that makes a child begin to dream. And without dreams, the soul dies.

I love how the little guy is looking over the edge of the table. Too cute! The tree looks yummy! This is the 4th blog I've visited this morning that has posted some yummy treat. I am now officially in the mood for anything that is sugry goodness. :)

    I wasn't finished...
My childhood memories are based around Christmas mornings, and big family meals, with friends pouring into our home, eager to sit down and share stories with us.
It's magical--not in a Abracadabra sort of way, but in a mental and spiritual sort of way.

    ho ho ho
lovely tree there! And the advent calendar, oh how i love this.
I am miss Christmas in this household too. I bug everybody since October and start thinking about decorations and recipes. I even made a big folder named "Christmas Recipes and Crafts"

Oh, you should get one; the boys will love it. They are probably on sale already! Take care, eh. You've had a rough day yesterday. I hope today is going much better. Other blog friends should drop over and give you good vibes.

    Angel jr.
Why did you add the jr.? Christmas is the ultimate mental and spiritual healer for some, but the worst time of year for others. Fortunately, I am with you.

Mine just looks tasty but probably doesn't actually taste too good; beware of false images...

I love doing crafty things, whether at Christmas or not. I have all kinds of supplies for my son and I to make ornaments over the weekend and I am working on CHristmas blankets for both boys. The baking is fun but I get bored of it too easily. And frustrated. I vow to try harder this year!

I was a big advent calendar kid, too. There was just something nifty about all those tiny paper doors...

    Welcome to my blog!

I admit I love the advent calendar as much as my son; did you buy one for yourself?

  1. Blogger Michelle said:

OOooo Cathy, about that coffee, my goodness it would go splendid with that gingerbread! How clever you are :)
I love Mr Bean, and the xmas episode, specially when the turkey lands on his head!

Aww, your little boy is SO cute. And yes, I've seen Mr. Bean's Christmas so I can imagine what it must be like at your house. What fun!

  1. Blogger christina said:

AND, that gingerbread tree is fantastic. Do you have star cookie cutters or did you do it all by hand?
