Pests

Wednesday, November 16, 2005

I have been afflicted by pests in this latter part of today. Pests of two different sorts, but both pests nonetheless.

The first has caused me to contemplate leaving blogland. I got a post that creeped me out; I of course deleted it, and it was probably harmless, but nevertheless, I started doing this whole blog with lots of trepidation and now feel comfortable. Writing is cathartic for me and this blog has initiated the catharsis. Perhaps I don't need this as the outlet any more. The juices are flowing. I don't want to edit my thoughts, be cautious with what I have to say. And right now, right here, I do. I despise this feeling. I am not asking you whether I should or should not leave, I am wondering what your feelings are about blogland and creepy people that are or are potentially lurking around....has this ever bothered you or not? Is it all harmless? How many pests are there out there among us, good blogger friends?

Now to the second pest. We discovered that there is a squirrel living in our attic. Hunkered down. We can't catch it. Will have to pay for a pest guy (or gal) to get it out. No idea how much this will cost; no experience with pests (of this type). This should be interesting.

    I think there will be weirdos in every fraction of society. And people who have only creepy weird things to say, only say them to get a rise out of their victims.

    I agree with Angel. But you do what is best for you and what makes you comfortable.

    You have GOT to get rid of the squirrel, they can do some serious damage. We had some last year and it was horrific trying to get rid of them.

    Have you tried a Havahart trap? Their website is their name, but I didn't want you to think I'm a spammer if I put it in here.

    My Mom has a friend who's a bit loony who hates squirrels even when they are outside - and she trapped them in her yard in these and brought them out into the more distant wild (and these people are already in Maine, mind you).

    Was is a spammer comment? Or more evil-seeming? I've been lucky so far, I guess.

    I once or twice had a stupid comment--vulgar--calling me a name in there too. I just delete it. Right now, I'm keeping up with a little dialogue with another blogger and one of her commenters, who is a little creepy. Kind of sad what people will comment just to get a rise. Try to ignore it. Even on the road today, you can weird, hateful looks from people who get pissed off for nearly nothing. It is definitely crazy times in which we live.

    As for the squirrel--hope you take care of that little pest quick. Just to ease your mind and mine. heehee :)

    Talk to you later.

    stalkers, weirdos, creeps, pests, aren't they everywhere? you go to Starbucks, there they are. Your mobile rings, it's them. You pick up the phone late at night, it's them. You go shopping, there they are staring at you from a distance. What about the bus stop and the metro? Full of them, trying to sit so close to you you can't breathe. So they are here too. But this is the safest place of all the other ones I mentioned. They can't touch us. And it's a shame to leave something good behind for them.
    A time will come when you won't need your blog. Maybe you'll pick a couple of blogfriends and exchange mails and stuff like that. Maybe when you start work again you won't have the time. But no, Cathy, not for a silly comment.
    xx

    Cathy...I'm sorry you have deal with this ....I have to agree with Angel as well..I know easier said than done but try to ignore/delete.
    I don't undertand why people have to ruin a good thing for others.

    Goodluck with the squirrel and b-careful.

    Thanks everyone for responding to this post with so many useful and kind things to say. It reminds me that I really do want to keep this blog going and that I truely feel that I have friends out here; kind, sincere, caring, compassionate people. People that I would not want to forsake becuase of one.

    Angel and Chloe; you are both right. I suppose I posted this too late at night when I was tired and more easily effected by weird comments. It was not a spammer, and I made the mistake of going to their site and holy creepiness, it shook me.

    As far as the squirrel goes, I'll keep you posted on that pest.

    Off to spend the day with the new babysitter...wish me luck.

    Thank you, blogger friends.
    Cathy

    that is too about about the pests- i'm sure the squirrel will be easier to get rid of unfortunaltey.

    but i know how you feel- writing has always been theraputic for me- a hobby, something i always enjoyed doing. that is why i started bloggign. so it doesn't seem fair to me that this pest should interfere with your freedom to write about whatever u want, no editing, no worrying about anyone has to say about it. in the end- its your blog, your thoughts, your feelings. so dont stop please!

    not on the acct of that creep anyways. :) too bad they don't have pest control for people pests!

    Don't let the creepy people scare you, it's probably just Jr. sneaking on the computer while his parents aren't looking. Jr's life is pretty boring and that's the only excitement he gets. Just ignore it :)Besides, we'd miss you :)

    I am back from the babysitter, which went amazingly well. On the wrotten side, I got a speeding ticket on the way there...more on that topic later.

    Let me take the time to thank you all individually:

    Angel;
    You are smart and sweet; truely an angel. Thanks.

    MomyBlogR;
    Mr. C. called about the squirrel today. We are having someone come over tomorrow. Thanks.

    Stephanie;
    Thanks so much for coming by. And for posting such helpful and useful information. My husband called the pest control people today and they gave us two options: 1. for $10.00, they could kill it....2. for $75.00, they would do the Havahart route. We are going for this option.

    Marel;
    Sorry to hear that you've encountered this too. Stay away from creepy people!!:)

    Chloe;
    Your words speak wisdom to me. If I ever leave blogland,(looks like I'm going to be here to stay for awhile, anyway)you would most certinaly be someone I would want to stay in touch with. Thank you.

    Heidi;
    My "French";) friend, thanks for your advice. I guess we're lucky to have such great people around that one bad egg really stands out. Thank you.

    Vani;
    You are right; the squirrel in the attic will be taken care of much more easily than the people pests that are out there...wish I could set some kind of trap and then drop them all off deep in the woods!....

    Romani;
    You are so right; and so sweet. Thank you.

    Trolls live for blogs and message boards...they want reactions...don't give them one...do you thing here...forget about them...you can add a tracker so anyone who comes you'll know their ip addy...then you can contact their sevice provider...each computer has their own number.
    http://www.statcounter.com
    is a great free one..can be invisible too so noone knows they are being tracked.
    Good luck!

    "Heidi;
    My "French";) friend,

    Omg Cathy..Please don't say the
    " F" word..I am far from it..lol
    You probably know more French than myself.

    Bleccch! Down with creeps! Both the internet kind and the live kind and the furry kind! I don't suppose it was the squirrel leaving you creepy comments...

    Delete. Block. Ignore. Try and forget. I'm awfully sorry you got creeped. But you can't go leaving the bloggyworld just because someone creeped you out.Ig that happens I'll hunt the creep down and lambaste him/her for depriving me of lovely poetry, snappy writing and pretty pictures!

    Also, I say go for the invisble statcounter. It's astonishing, but you really can track where people are coming from if you need to. Actually, that's a bit creepy in and of itself...but still. In this case it could be a handy tool.

    Cathy i have very strong feelings re internet because of my profession.
    You will never see me post photos of my child because of "morphing". I've seen first hand what can be done with kids photos. Not nice.
    Main thing to remember is as soon as your on line your exposed to the world. Treat it as such.
    I would say some is harmless, some is not, my advice, keep on doing if it makes you comfortable. Just don't have the attitude "It can't happen to you".........it can.
    If you have any concerns just email me....my email address is on my blog :)

    It's on:)

    Heidi;
    I'm just teasing; I know you're not francais, mon ami:)

    MissB;
    Done. That's for the support.

    Michelle;
    Sound advice and I am really thinking twise about everything I put on here. It does amaze me how so many people just dump everything on without any obvious concern at all. For awhile there I thought I was just being paranoid.
