FYI

Thursday, November 17, 2005

IF you happen to find yourself driving down a road in Nova Scotia. And IF the posted Speed Limit says 60 km/h (about 40mph). And IF you happen to find yourself driving 80 km/h (about 50 mph). And IF you are driving round a bend and spot a police car. And even IF this is your first violation of the speed limit....

You will be pulled over.
By a very large cop.
And scolded.
And given a ticket.
For $215.00
And your license will be suspended
For 7 days.

I know. 'Cause it happened to me today.

    WOW! Suspension for 7 days on a first offense??? That's crazy! What if you have doctor's appointments or kids to take to school?

    I can understand a ticket (although I deserve several, I've never gotten one) - but suspension??!

    First;
    I love your new photo; that would be the new WalMart coat,as I recall; fabulous. I am thinking about getting rid of my screaming monster; it feels old.

    Second;
    I can choose the week, supposedly; so it can be a week when I am away on vacation or a week over the Christmas holidays, when I know my husband is around, but still...good grief!

    Oh wow, that sucks!!!

    Yes, sucks big time.
    There is something on the ticket in small letters regarding volunteer work in lieu of the fine...I will check into this further. Maybe I'll be picking up garbage along the side of the highway in an orange jumpsuit; all for day dreaming in the rain.

    WOW! They cut you no slack up there, huh? What's the deal? $215.00 DANG!

    I get the ticket part (although, really, 50mph? Whatever!) but suspention? That's pretty outrageous. I like that you get to pick the week (although, really, where's the punishment in that? Aren't they trying to punish you?), but then you're stuck with it on your record! that bites!!! Booo....

  1. Blogger Michelle said:

    Oh pooh! Your fines are bigger than ours :(

    that's bad Cathy! Can at least serve as an excuse for you to stay at home and rest? Or are you going to have all the things you used to and having to take the bus too?
    sorry xx

    hi!i just happened to drop by your site and found it very nice and interesting.i'll surely keep coming back to your blogsite:-)

    Oh dear! That's not good. I find it pretty funny that you can choose your own week though. :-)

    Sorry to hear about your comments trouble and REALLY glad to hear that you'll still be blogging. You did the right thing by just deleting the comment. Not even worth it to take things up with a troll. If you ignore them, they go away and look for somewhere else to play (hey, that rhymes!)

    And in reference to the post before this one - your baby is BEAUTIFUL.

    Wow Cathy... can't beleive the 7 day suspension. That sucks! :(

    I'll be careful the next time i drive into NS. Thanx for the warning.

  1. Blogger Stephanie said:

    Oh NO! That is a huge penalty. I'll drive very carefully if I'm ever in Nova Scotia.

    When I first got my license I was pulled over by a state trooper in NH. When he came back to my car after checking my information, he asked. "Is you father _____?"
    Yes, I said.
    "I'm not giving you a ticket this time, but I am going to call and tell your father," he said.
    Somehow, at age 16, this was so much worse!

    Momyb;
    $215. Cdn, mind you, but still; ugh.

    MissB;
    Turns out I have to petition to pick the week; we'll see what happens.

    Michelle;
    What are yours?

    Chloe;
    My week is supposed to be Jan.13-20; just when I am supposed to be taking the babe to the nanny's house...I am really not sure how I will be working this out. So in the meantime I am simply putting it out of my mind; Mr.C. will sort it out :)

    Christina;
    It's not as easy as I originally thought with the picking your own week; there will be oodles of paperwork to sort this out, I'm sure.

    Heidi;
    If one thing can come ouit of this, perhaps I've helped to prevent someone else the misery!

    Stephanie;
    That's hilarious; too bad that didn't work for me:)

  1. Blogger Foxy said:

    holy crap! all that just for speeding?? and you weren't even intoxicated..lol. so sorry- and thanks for the warning- never travelling to NS! have a good weekend. :)

  1. Blogger Cathy said:

    Vani;
    Oh, you musn't let this deter you from coming to God's country; just dont speed once you're over the border...

  1. Blogger Michelle said:

    $80 for the first 10 klm over then it jumps to $120..then $240. Loss of licence usually occurs 20kms over but only if its your second offence. We also have demerit points.
